SPRINGHILL DADS v PRIMARY SCHOOLS
By Scoop

Mal was starting to get desperate - just couldn't find anyone willing to play the Dads and the weekend was approaching fast. Rob Frisby to the rescue and a mixture of Primary Schools and Monday 5-a-siders. One big problem, though, Rob was playing for The Schools!
Robbie's back in goal and Martin has brought along a couple of chums to make up the numbers.

SPRINGHILL DADS
Robbie Thorpe
Pete - Brian Medway - Tony Pascoe - John Lynch
Jason Furness - Dave Hedges - Jim Allan - Matt McLachlan
Martin Kingsbury - Simon.

Starring for the Mojos; Rob Frisby, Lavender, Jon Clarke, Johnny Jordan, Pikie & Guest.

Robbie was called into action early clearing up after John Lynch put himself under pressure, with Rob Frisby sniffing around.
Then Matt played a ball into the corner for Simon to set Jim Allen up, only to see his curler drift wide.
Some good play from Jason Furness on the right combining with Martin Kingsbury saw his shot cleared off the line. The ball fell nicely for Dave Hedges to have a go, his shot was blocked and went behind for a corner. Jason drove the corner over for Dave to have a shot. This time it was blocked by Matt and Jim's volley flew over.
The ball was cleared up field to Rob Frisby and he was running through on goal but Robbie was alert (I always thought so! Ed) and saved bravely at Rob's feet.
Jim crossed into the box for Simon but was beaten to it by the defender but Tony Pascoe put it right back in from the edge of the box. Simon picked up the ball beat two defenders and was dismayed to see his shot flash wide.
A hopeful ball was knocked over the top but Robbie was ready for it . . . no problems. Ooops! The ball somehow ran through Robbie's legs and was dribbling in the direction of the goal but gratefully he managed to redeem the situation with a red face.
A high ball into the box John Lynch, pressured by Rob Frisby missed his header - Johnnie Jordan got tangled up with Rob and Robbie was happy to pick up the pieces.
Robbie rolled the ball out to Tony who took the ball forward and played it up-field. The ball was headed out for a throw-in. Jason took the throw-in and Dave was battling for it but it was put out for another throw-in. This time Martin's shot was headed back off the post, Martin won it back and set it up for DAVE HEDGES to strike cleanly into the back of the net.
Pikie had an adventurous lob but, for once, Robbie collected cleanly.
Simon on the ball set a chance up for Dave but Dave's shot went over.
Matt won the ball on the left and fed Chris, he beat a couple of defenders but shot wide.
Jason was through one on one with the keeper but Jon Clarke blocked his shot. The ball ran clear and Jason had another chance this time somehow, in front of an open goal, he contrived to hit the post!
Matt had a header saved.
The Mojos won a corner and fired it in, it hit the post and ran along the line. Robbie was shouting, 'It's still in play' instead of claiming it had crossed the line as any decent keeper would do. It was hit back in and was duely volleyed passed Robbie in goal. That'll teach him to keep his trap shut.
Dave played the ball up to Jason who put the ball over the top to Simon - his angled volley ran wide.
A great 5-a-side move and Lavender released the ball for Rob Frisby to chest the ball and half volley over.

HALF TIME
DADS 1 - 1 SCHOOLS

Some early pressure from some slack play and the Mojos were trying desperately to score. Then the ball fell to ROB FRISBY who had a crack from a narrow angle but Robbie saved with his feet. The corner was headed high up into the air and when it came down Robbie managed to get some contact but it bobble at Rob Frisby's feet - he happily tapped the ball home through the legs in a crowded penalty area.
From the kick off Jason tried a long range shot - not quite as good as Beckham's (actually it was nothing like Beckham's . . . more like Brooklin's). Pete took a couple of throw-ins and made couple of chances. One was blocked resulting in a corner, Martin tapped it on and Matt's header zipped wide. Then Tony fed Dave on the left who slipped the ball through for Matt to shoot wide!
Dave Hedges won a battle on the edge of the box but his shot was well saved.
Pete's throw in to Simon who did a little juggling act and passed to Pete who's hopeful lob was easily gathered by Jon in goal.
Brian came bustling through from the back - his shot was blocked Jason was on to the rebound but his shot was wide.
Brian blocked a shot with Robbie taking a tea break - Dave picked it up and put the ball through for Dave. Simon ran perfectly to collect Dave's pass but Jon was off his blocks like a geriatric whippet - he had just struggled around the Winchester 10k, trailing in 5 minutes behind Springhill Dad, Christine Smears. But he did make a great save at Simon's feet.
Rob Frisby was through, beat the off-side trap with John Lynch snapping at his heels. Rob got a shot off but Robbie managed to palm his effort up in the air and Rob prostrate like a beached whale.
A great spell mow, Brazil - ha . . . eat your hearts out. Jason and Jim started a sweeping move down the right and Tony came into play in the centre, he released Simon who crossed for Matt to deliver a cracking half volley - well it nearly cracked the post.
I never thought I'd hear the day that I'd say we really could be doing with Jon Elms?
It was all Dads - but they just couldn't score. Jim won a throw in, Dave's shot was blocked and Jason volleyed over.
The Dads were really going for it but things were starting to get a bit niggley. Jason was having fun kicking the winger, Jim was wrestling with the full-back. Then Jim saw an opportunity and called for a corner and they were going to give it but the Dads let it go? It ended in a bit of a pandimonium when Pete crossed into a crowded box but Jon punched clear and Jim was lying on his back.
Oh, and somewhere amongst that lot Brian got a great header in wot drew a fantastic reflex save out of Jon Clarke in goal.
